HEAR THE BUZZ!

Most people know about "math rock," a sub genre where bands are very good at their instruments and play very precisely, usually with complex rhythms. (Think Battles or Foals, or the grandfathers of the genre, Helmet.) But what about music that is good to listen to while doing math? It may not be an actual kind of music, but we think we've got some of that on this week's show. Which means that Blog Fresh is the perfect accompaniment to your last-minute tax return calculations.

If you just read that previous sentence and thought to yourself "what are they talking about?" you're either A) not a U.S. citizen or, B) royally screwed. Maybe you were one of those people who filed, like, two months ago and are looking for ideas on how to spend your fat refund. Well, we've got a whole show's worth of good musical suggestions (complete with easy "buy it" links, to boot).

Whatever your current tax situation, we've got a good show for ya this week. CEC from pop blog DISCONAP visits to talk about French hip hop ingenue Yelle (translated lyrics are here); Taylor from Music for Kids Who Can't Read Good discovers Muscles via Muxtape; we learn about the connection between Seattle's Wild Orchid Children and Kay Kay & His Weathered Underground thanks to the blog Sound on the Sound; Dave from Bumpershine connects with fellow Canadian Jason Collett; and we play both sides of the new Shortwave Set single with commentary from Bill at Sound Bites. Plus, new music from This is Ivy League and (Blog Fresh) chart-topper El Perro del Mar!

But wait! A few fun agenda items to go over, too: If you download the show, either via iTunes or the zip file on this page, you'll notice a cool new Blog Fresh logo when you open it on your MP3 player. We'll be working it onto the site soon too. Second, Blog Fresh is now part of a new weekly feature on Rollingstone.com's Breaking Blog called Hit or Hype. The crack writers at RS will check out three artists from our chart and decide whether they're worthy of all the blog attention or not. And you can tell them whether they've got it right or wrong in the comments. Isn't the internet fun?

Sigh. Yelle. She was so fun when she was underground and French, but I'm not sure why everyone is making such a huge fuss about her in the US. Her lyrics don't translate that well into English, they're a hell of a lot more fun in French. ____ New York music blog: www.returnticketmusic.com

Sigh. You discovered her first. Before anyone. And it's so tiresome when other people make her not, like, underground anymore. Twat.

Attn: The Teeth have broken up. It is up to Man Man and Dr. Dog to hold down our lovely brotherly city, or we will be forced to submit to the suburbs. No Thanks.
