IT'S WHAT THE MUSIC BLOGS LISTEN TO!

Happy 2008, everybody! We made it, can you believe it? Another year. Before we start worrying about this year, let's give 2007 one last spin. We asked the members of the Blog Fresh Posse for their year-end picks, and voilà: The Blog Fresh Best of 2007 Mix.

Now sometimes when you make something by committee, you end up with the Edsel. But we think this turned out pretty good. It may not be the end-all, beat-all representation of The Year That Was, but it sums up the varied taste and interests of the many music-obsessed bloggers we featured on the show. Enjoy, and we'll be back with a fresh show on January 21.

1. M.I.A. - "Paper Planes" (Blog Fresh pick) | Apart from Justice's "D.A.N.C.E." this may have been the most ubiquitous track of 2007. You seemed to hear it everywhere. Yet we're not tired of it.

2. Patrick Wolf - "The Magic Position" (The Music Slut Pick) | "I just really intensely felt this album. It's passionate, pretty, and really runs the gamut of emotions. 'The Magic Position' is just so stellar -- catchy and lively. It's also well-received when I DJ."

3. Klaxons - "Golden Skans" (Sound Bites pick) | A year later, I still have no idea what a Golden Skan is, but there's no denying that bassline in the verse. And I've been humming the chorus since the first time I heard it. Can't wait to see what these guys do next.

4. The Moths - "Games" (Green Pea Ness pick) | Pound for pound, "Games" is the best purchase I made all year. The Moths get more done in ten minutes than most bands do over the course of a double album.

5. Pelle Carlberg - I Love You, You Imbecile" (Finest Kiss pick) | "In a nutshell, this is a great album. Pelle Carlberg has been making records for a while now, but he totally hit his stride with his second solo record. It's funny, heart wrenching, and very clever."

6. Electrelane - "At Sea" (The Daily Growl pick) | "A couple of days ago, I was asked to describe this album for the Blog Fresh Radio end-of-year thing, and I hurriedly and rather ineloquently said something like 'It's just a really good record with really great songs.' That's not the sort of sentence that's going to win any writing awards, but it does go some way to describe what really is a wonderful album."

7. The National - "Fake Empire" (Quick Before it Melts pick) | "The quiet majesty of Boxer was unmatched in 2007. If I were ranking these albums, there would be little doubt that The National would be holding the belt. 'Fake Empire' is sadly, epically beautiful...and the whole of Boxer is a classic modern rock album. The National's finest hour."

8. Animal Collective - "Peacebone" (My Big Mouth Strikes Again pick) | "Last year, the most innovative and groundbreaking album was Return to Cookie Mountain. This year, the honor goes to Animal Collective who has uploaded into our collective consciousness an experiment that is loud, noisy and delicious."

9. Escort - "Bright New Life" (Blog Fresh host Abbey's pick) | "If anything, 2007 marked the return to the dance floor -- whether in the form of full-on DJ worship at the FUN party at Brooklyn's Studio B, or the celebration of unadulterated disco. I think NYC's Escort is the perfect embodiment of both."

10. LCD Soundsystem - "All My Friends" | This made a lot of the Blog Fresh Posse's Top Ten lists, including Green Pea Ness, Sound Bites, The Daily Growl, Yer Mam!, and more. Who are we to argue? "All My Friends" is arguably the best song on the album.

11. Of Montreal - "Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse" (Cable & Tweed pick) | "Without a doubt, my record of the year. Kevin Barnes and company delivered this gem in January, and from the day I got my mitts on a copy it rarely left the rotation. The record I drove to, the record I ran to, the record I listened to while staring out coffee shop windows. "

12. The Bees - "Left Foot Stepdown" (Chocolate Bobka pick) | "Definitely one of my favorite records of the year - yet somehow it didn't end up on my Top 9, ha!" McGregor, that's why people make Top Ten lists. "Left Foot Stepdown" did make your 2007 Singles list, however, so we've included it here.

13. The Builders and the Butchers - "Spanish Death Song" (Song by Toad pick) | "Ragged, ramshackle, raucous and fucking brilliant. Imagine shaking every last skeleton out of your closet and them all coming to life, burning down your house and dancing round the inferno, guzzling bourbon. I want to move to Portland."

14. Jens Lekman - "Opposite of Hallelujah" (Pop Tarts Suck Toasted pick) | Night Falls Over Kortedala is the album of the year. With Jens' ability to pen a cheesy but poignant love song and his crooning voice, its hard not to fall in love with this Swedish pop-ster. Each song on here is a certified gem with not a single track you could skip over. Could you possibly look for anything else in an album? Sure, but I haven't got the time to list all the reasons this is the best of the year.

15. Roisin Murphy - "Overpowered" (Blog Fresh pick) | Much of Overpowered was straight-up pop-disco, but for those looking for the eccentricities of Moloko or Murphy's first solo album, the title track certainly does the trick.

16. Bottomless Pit - "The Cardinal Movement" (Bradley's Almanac pick) | Hammer of the Gods is not only one of the best records of year -- it's an actual record. It came out as a double- gatefold thick vinyl. It's fantastic -- eight songs and I love them all. No clunkers start-to-finish.

17. Pharoahe Monch - "Body Baby" (Cubik Musik pick) | "I think this song covers a lot of the excitement that was going on in music this year."
