What The World's Best Music Blogs Listen To!

Greetings, friends. It's Old Timer week on Blog Fresh. No, Larry King is not on the show talking about a new Liza Minelli track, but a couple of our bloggers this week are discussing cool old records you may be unfamiliar with. It's good to know music history so you can say this sort of thing about new bands: "Yeah, this was pretty good the first time... when it was called The Jesus and Mary Chain."

Bringing the history: Nothing But Green Lights is excited about a new compilation of rarities by Freak Folk grandma Vashti Bunyan, and new posse member Dave from Bumpershine will tell us about a Loney, Dear reissue that just came out in the States. Additionally, we launch a new segment this week called "It's New to Me!" where we'll unearth lost musical gems. For the inaugural segment, James at Yer Mam! will fill us in on onetime Ian Dury bandmate Chaz Jankel. Which will allow you to say things like "This Sally Shapiro record kind of sounds like Chaz Jankel." Or not.

We've got new new stuff too: SFA frontman Gruff Rhys' collaboration with Boom Bip called Neon Neon; Covert Curiosity gives us the 411 on new Austin band Yellow Fever; and Finest Kiss shows us how to tell various breeds of Elephant apart (specifically, he'll be talking about Danish Elephants).
